The New Franklin Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Neurological Department provides care for patients who have had a neurological (nerve/nervous system) injury or illness. Individuals who may benefit include those who have suffered a stroke, experienced a spinal cord or head injury. It also provides care for individuals who have a neurological disorder or disease such as Alzheimer’s, ALS, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease. Common problems of patients with neurological disorders may include paralysis, vision impairment, poor balance, inability to ambulate and loss of functional independence, speech and swallowing disorders. The team of specially-trained therapists at New Franklin Center have the knowledge, skill, equipment and experience to treat all these neurological disorders.

Treatment begins when our Director of Rehab evaluates the resident and creates an individual recovery plan. Our physical therapists are well-trained to work with a broad range of Neurological disorders including:

• Spinal cord injury
• Brain injury that results from trauma or conditions such as stroke or tumors
• Multiple sclerosis
• Parkinson’s disease
• Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
• Polyneuropathies such a Guillain-Barre syndrome or chronic inflammatory polyneuropathy
• Vestibular disorders such as BPPV, acoustic neuroma, or other conditions that cause dizziness and loss of balance
• Pediatric conditions such as spina bifida or cerebral palsy
• Balance Deficits
• Coordination
